There are two main categories of sound in film diegetic and non-diegetic
Diegetic is sound the character can hear
Non-degetic is sound the character cannot hear but the audience can (it adds atmosphere /makes you feel emotions
Examples:
Diegetic :dialogue, ambient, sound, and sound effects
Non-diegetic music, voice over, and sound effects
